After 2 days of waiting, Presidential candidate, Nobert Mao is finally in Kasese campaigning for the top seat in the county.

He was welcomed by a few crowds gathered around the hotel and at the shell petrol station as he set off to his first rallies in Busongora South.

Mao is launching his maiden political campaigns in Kasese and has promised to fight for justice for the people of Rwenzururu kingdom whose blood was shade when the Kingdom premises were raided.

Mao says all those affected by the 2016 Rwenzururu attacks will be identified and compensated once he gets the state power.

The violence erupted on 26th November 2016 in Kasese, when Police and the UPDF under the command of Lt. Peter Elwelu raided the Rwenzururu kingdom, launching a massacre in which over 15 people were killed,200 arrested and some remanded without trial.

The government later charged some suspects including six children, with treason, terrorism, and murder for the deaths of 15 police officers.

The Omusinga (King) of Rwenzururu, Charles Mumbere was also arrested, charged with murder, and remains under house arrest with conditions not to move outside Kampala metropolitan area without permission of the court.

The bloody killings later saw the promotion of Major General Lt. Peter Elwelu to Lieutenant General in February 2019.

Mao reiterated a statement he made earlier promising the unconditional release of the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere and all persons that were arrested in the attack on the Rwenzururu Palace.
