Centenary Bank, the leading commercial microfinance bank in Uganda scooped the Community Banking Excellence Award at the 2020 Digital Impact Awards Africa (DIAA) which were recently held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.

Now in its 6th year running, the DIAA organized by HiPipo seek to lay ground for promoting digital inclusion, financial inclusion and cybersecurity while recognizing and appreciating the different organizations that are spearheading the use of digital systems in their service offering.

Held under the theme “Collaboration to Advance Safety and Security towards Sustainable Financial Inclusion” the awards were intended to explore the strategic trends and technologies that are shaping the future of digital, information technology and businesses.

Commenting on the bank’s award, Mr. Micheal Bulyerali, the Corporate Communication Specialist for Centenary Bank said that, “Centenary Bank is grateful to its customers who have continued supporting the bank through the uptake and usage of the various digital platforms aimed at easing access to services and enhancing their banking experience. The support by our clientele towards our efforts to promote financial inclusion has enabled us to win the Community Banking Excellence award.”

“The unprecedented times have challenged us to become agile in terms of our product and service offering, evidenced by some of our latest innovations and service enhancements including the launch of CenteXpress, a mobile based account opening feature intended to serve the unbanked population, which ties into the 2022 Bank of Uganda financial inclusion strategy of increasing the percentage of formally financially included adult population (16 years+) from 58 percent to at least 80 percent by 2022,” Bulyerali added.

 Some of the accolades that Centenary Bank has received over the years include; Best Brand on Social Media in 2019, Digital Brand of the Year in 2018 and Best Financial Services Brand on Social Media in 2017 among others.

The 2020 DIAA’s comprised of 36 categories, with 17 recognizing best performing digital and financial players from across Africa and 19 categories purely focused on Uganda. In addition, two special recognitions were featured namely; Regulatory Financial Inclusion Rails Award and Women in FinTech Leadership Award.
