Musicians artists and events organizers now have a good reason to jubilate after the government has reopened the sector 9 months after being out of business.

A communication from the National Cultural Forum indicates that effective this Saturday on 19th, December concerts can now take place but under strict conditions.

Sam Okello Kello the chairman board of trustees at the National Cultural Forum announced the pleasant news to journalists on Wednesday at the Uganda Media Center.

He says this was okayed after a series of engagements between stakeholders in the industry, the National Covid-19 taskforce team, and the  Ministry of health.

”All event organizers have been advised to go to the National theater where SOP’s have been published or check the UNCC website,” he said.

The events will be conducted in gazetted open spaces from 7 am-7 pm and only hold a maximum of 200 persons.

Last week Nigerian superstar Omah Lay was thrown into jail for negligent acts likely to spread infectious diseases after singing at a concert in Uganda over the weekend.

His arrest sparked outrage from local artists who accused the government of being segregative and favoring international artists by granting them work permits to perform in Uganda while their own are suffering.

The artists through their association begged to be allowed to work as most of them can barely afford a meal a day.
