Police in Rakai district is on a search mission for 5 UPDF soldiers who reportedly raided various polling stations with over 2000 pri -ticked ballots last week during parliamentary and presidential elections.

The soldiers are reported to have visited Lwoyo, Kibuuka, and Kyanika polling stations with the marked ballot papers.

The pre-ticked ballots were however destroyed by angry voters who grabbed the boxes , tearing and burning the content.

The Internal Security Officer(GISO), Lwamaggwa Sub-county, Julius Ssempeera, narrated how the soldiers used an army pick-up track whose number plate was smeared with clay making to disguise their identities while carrying out their dubious activities.

Muhammad Nsubuga, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, says they are yet to identify the suspected soldiers and have already summoned the presiding officers from the said polling stations to record statements.

”We have not yet fully identified the perpetrators in regards to that, since then they vanished but the situation has normalized and they the disorganization at the 3 polling stations did not affect the majority result,” Nsubuga said

The Electoral Commission on Saturday declared Museveni the winner of the elections with 58.6 percent of the votes while his main rival Robert Kyagulanyi aka  Bobi wine scooped 34.8 percent.
