Police in Rwenzori has dismissed reports claiming 32 people perished in a vicious Kasese road accident last night at about 09;40pm along the Kasese – Fortportal Road.

According to earlier reports that have since been squashed as false, reports indicated that 32 died while 11 were injured.

Mouthpiece Rwenzori region ASP Twesigye Vincent, confirms that only 10 people died on the spot while 33 were seriously injured and rushed to Kilembe hospital and ST Paul Hospital in Kasese for treatment.

He adds that the accident involved a trailer,2 canters, and 2 other vehicles.The accident involved 5 vehicles; UAU 700U (Premo),  UBF 968T (canter), UAU 457F (canter), UAY 793E, and UAY 836Y (trailer).

Twesigye says 2 others have since been referred to Mbarara Regional referral Hospital for more medical attention.

Tumwesigye says Police together with the team from the Redcross Society responded immediately and rushed to the scene at  Kanyansi between Hiima and  Rugendabala on the Kasese – Fortportal Road.

He however says the cause of the accident is still being investigated and more updates will be shared in due course.
