Col Kizza Besigye has scoffed at the international community for acting sluggishly in responding to the recently concluded general elections that saw NRM candidates retain the presidential seat for the next 5 years.

Addressing the media today at the people’s government offices in Katonga, the former FDC party president and 4-time presidential contender reacted to a meeting going on between the NUP leadership and the EU delegates that are thought to focus mainly on the outcome of the elections.

Besigye was in the presence of  the FDC party president

Besigye says it is a little too late for the foreign community to be holding meetings and that they should instead be acting.

”I heard that the EU delegation went to meet Bobi wine at his residence, this is no time for visiting or PR, it is time for action,” Besigye said.

He adds that the international community has continued to provide financial assistance to Uganda while staying silent and ignoring the abuse of elections.

Besigye says the elections were marred by a COVID-19 pandemic, militarization, arrests, threats of violence, with many people witnessed wearing helmets and bulletproof jackets and the Electoral Commission wasn’t in control.

Much as he appreciated Ugandans for engaging actively in the polling process, he says Uganda is still faced with the huge task of ousting Museveni who has been in power for over 30 years.

He says the elections are not a modest way for the country to see a new leader because the Electoral Commission has already been compromised.

He however scoffed at Ugandans who are dispising the actions of the National Unity platform -NUP in going to court to protest

On 16th January, the Electoral Commission- EC declared Yoweri Museveni the winner of the election, and on January 28th, 2021, released the final tally of the results showing that the incumbent 6,042,898 votes representing 58.38 percent while Kyagulanyi got 3,631,437 votes representing 35.08 percent.
