A panel of 9 justices is set to interface with the legal teams the NUP presidential loser Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and the president-elect Yoweri Museveni on Thursday, Feb 11th, 2021.
Bobi Wine is challenging the outcome of the 2021 presidential polls that saw the Electoral commission declaring NRM candidate Yoweri Museveni as the winner after polling 5,300,831 votes (58%) while Bobi Wine got 3,119,965 votes (34.62%).
Harriet Nalukwago the register of the supreme court says the meeting is meant to harmonize outstanding issues before a hearing date is set.
She says the pre-hearing is also meant to discuss timelines within which both parties can file their submissions to the justices ahead of the hearing date.
Museveni is being represented by a 40-man legal team led by the NRM party legal director Oscar Kihika, Kiryowa and Karugire advocates, while Bobi Wine is represented by A 25 man legal including Medard Segona, Anthony Wameli, Asuman Basalirwa, Samuel Muyizzi Mulindwa, Abdallah Kiwanuka, Abubakar Ssenkajako and Suleiman Kakaire.
In his petition, Bobi wine argues that the elections were conducted outside the confines of the law and he is seeking nullification and re-election to take place.
NUP listed 26 grounds including ballot stuffing, intimidation of NUP agents and supporters, and pre-ticked ballot papers.
However, candidate Tibuhaburwa Museveni begs to differ, he wants the supreme court case dismissed with costs.
Museveni says he was legally voted in a free and fair election conducted in accordance with all electoral laws and the constitution.
Museveni argues that the unlawful actions of Bobi wine toward the EC guidelines is the reason his campaigns were blocked.
Museveni adds that Kyagulanyi’s petition was filed late after exceeding the 15 days of the declaration of the election results on 16th January 2021.
