After one month of what was assumed a social media blackout, the government has announced a decision to restore the internet back.
The announcement has been made by Hon Peter Ogwang the state minister for ICT and National guidance on Wednesday.
“Internet and Social media services have been fully restored,” Hon. Ogwang posted on his Twitter timeline on Wednesday morning.

“We apologize for the inconveniences caused, but it was for the security of our country. Let’s be constructive, NOT destructive consumers/users of social media,” he added.
Internet was shut down a day to the 14th January polls and restored a week later, however, social media sites remained blocked until today.
The president officially communicated the ban in his pre-election address and blamed the shutdown on a Facebook’s decision that targeted NRM accounts.
The government argued that the shutdown denied Ugandans access to information and prepared grounds for rigging.
However, despite this , Ugandans have been enjoying social media platforms as usual uninterrupted after accessing and downloading VPNs to their gadgets.
