The Uganda police have thrown out claims by Ronald Ssegawaa National Unity Platform-NUP that he was tortured by security forces.

A disturbing picture of a badly injured being visited by the NUP strongman Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has circulated the social media airwaves with reports that he was attacked, kidnapped, and beaten to a pulp by security forces.

The man who claims he is Ssegawaa also alleged he was dumped at Mulago national referral hospital almost unconscious with torture wounds all over his body.

However, the Police mouthpiece, Fred Enanga, has in a statement on Wednesday dismissed this story as fake, he also says the photo making rounds is of another person and not Ssegawaa.

“The gruesome photo of a tortured male, identified as Ronald Segawa, that showed him with random body injuries including an open fractured wound on the hand, that has since gone viral, with the claim that the victim was tortured by security agencies, is fake news and a negative propaganda tactic, by opposition groups and its sponsored network of bloggers,” Enanga said.

Enanga says the picture has been verified as for one Sandra Nelima who allegedly fell off a rock on January 27, 2021, and sustained injuries on both arms and legs at the industrial ward in Mbale City.

He further says that the person in the photo is  Sandra Nelima who is currently undergoing medical treatment under Elite Youth of Uganda, an NGO based in Mbale that is also fundraising for her major surgery.

“Apparently the hands of the alleged torture victim, Ronald Segawa are hidden in a calculated manner, in their deliberate attempt to sway public perception.”

He adds that its NUP baseless propaganda by NUP fellows to engage the media in tarnishing the image of security agencies in the country.

The images were smuggled from Mbale regional referral hospital when the victim was undergoing treatment and photoshopped to incite negative perceptions against security agencies. It is unfortunate that some media houses fell victim to the calculated and malicious propaganda by NUP including its Party President, who affirmed that the fractured hand belonged to their supporter Ronald Segawa, which is totally false.”
