Police at Kabale Central Police station is holding a father for defiling and marrying his 10-year-old biological daughter.
Gerevazio Tiryambwenu, a resident of Rwamukundi village in Kirigime ward, Southern division Kabale municipality separated from his wife more than 4 years and has since been living with his daughter.
Elly Maate, police spokesperson for the Kigezi region says the suspect and the victim both tested HIV positive.
Tiryambwenu ‘s evil games were brought to broad daylight when he took his daughter to Rugarama hospital for family planning services after she developed stomach pain.
At the hospital, the child told the hospital authorities how her father had repeatedly sexually harassed her and they immediately alerted the office of Kabale probation for help.
Monica Muhumuza Nzeirwe, Kabale District Probation Officer, says Tiryambwenu, had threatened to kill the minor in case she revealed the secret marriage and defilement.
The 10year old girl had even dropped out of school after the father said she suffered epilepsy and couldn’t proceed with school.
Maate says that the suspect faces being charged with aggravated defilement.
