A 73-year-old man has earned himself 12 years in jail for defiling a 6-year-old girl.
Fred Muswogo pleaded guilty to the offense of aggravated defilement and was sentenced by the Masaka high court, Judge Lady Justice Hon. Victoria Nakintu Katamba.
The prosecution states that Muswogo lured the minor who was playing with friends in his neighborhood, into his house at Kamese landing site, Kalangala district on 26th June 2018 where he defiled her.
The defense lawyer Brenda Ainomugisha asked the court for a lenient sentence on Muswogo, considering he is a first-time offender who didn’t waste the court’s time and was remorseful for the crime he committed.
However, Justice Hon. Victoria said Muswogo violated the trust the minor had in him as an older person and took away her innocence by defiling her something which affected her physically and physiologically.
“You have been convicted on your own plea of guilty to the offense of defilement, considering the mitigating factors you will serve 9 years and 5 months starting today( Friday) you have a right to appeal the ruling within 14days” she added.
