Mike Mutebi is unshakable at KCCA FC! Those within will tell you.

Indeed he is after the beautiful times with the club seeing them accumulate accolade after accolade.

KCCA FC is languishing in 8th spot, seven points behind arch rivals and table leaders Vipers SC.

Vipers SC were lucky to be handed last season’s championship after the games were prematurely called off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This was not an ending KCCA FC manager Mutebi expected. He knew his side had it all to take on the Kitende based outfit to the last day.

However, KCCA FC, find themselves in a precarious position. Everyone ahead of them is playing their hearts out and, has not allowed the former champions to bully them when it mattered.

Rival threat

Defending champions Vipers SC are grinding results despite not playing to their peak.

Express FC under new man Wasswa Bossa, are the early deal as they continue to convincingly see off opponents in bid to win something this season.

Sam Ssimba’s URA FC, continue with the pace they left off at last season after finishing decently.

Police FC are the team to beat this season at the cunning hands of Abdallah Mubiru and are lying 2nd.

Departure of key stars

But the current state of affairs leaves him sat at the edge of a pickup negotiating a steep hill.

Genuinely, the club and Mutebi are coming to terms with losing two of the club’s precious items Allan Okello and Mustapha Kizza to the paid ranks in Algeria and US respectively.

The pair was instrumental in the club’s recent successes at home and on the continent.

You would think it is going to take a while for the club to identify talent to step into the large boots of Allan Okello and Abdul.

Uncalled for arrogance in star departures

Mutebi let go of some key individuals whose departure has left the team short of experience to take on the big boys.

The team has failed to tame URA SC, Express FC, Wakiso Giants and Bul FC in their recent outings.

The KCCA FC chief allowed his once blue-eyed boy Muzamilu Mutyaba who has since joined Express FC, go for nothing.

Other key departures included; Erisa Ssekisambu, Jackson Nunda, Saddam Juma, Tom Ikara, Eric Ssenjobe, Jamil Malyamungu, and Mike Mutyaba.

It is quite a number. Not just in numbers but the quality of departures that has left the club struggling to come to terms with its performances in the early part of the season which seems to be slipping away.

New breed yet to hit it off

Brian Ahebwa was the talk of town after signing in from Mbarara. After leading the line so well his call up to the national side for CHAN finals, he had bagged 4 goals against Onduparaka and others against URA and Bright Stars, the forward has gone silent.

Ahebwa looked the real deal especially for the yellows against the top sides. Can Bright Anukani step in?

Mutebi brought in Juma Balinya who is yet to find his ground. Then there is the issue of trying to play Italian Stefano Mazengo Lora who is simply not good enough.

The other bright star is Charles Lwanga who has hit the net four goals in three games and continues to light up the league.

Mutebi will need tThe other lot he brought in Moses Kalanzi, Dominic Ayella, Samson Kigozi, Denis Iguma, Charles Lwanga and Ashraf Mugume to up their game if he wants to survive the chop or win something this season.

On and off right hand man Molly Byekwaso

Mutebi has spoken highly of his assistant Molly Byekwaso. Byekwaso has been on national duty with the Hippos, giving him little time to attend to his duties at Lugogo.

The youthful coach who Mutebi brought in 2016 after Sam Ssimbwa’s departure, knew his way around the club’s culture and without him it has been a tough road to negotiate for the club.
