Daring Aruu County MP

The fearless Aruu County Member of Parliament -MP Samuel Odonga Otto is out on bail under strict terms after close to a week in prison.

Otto was previously denied bail at the same court denied and remanded him to Gulu prison on 2 counts of causing bodily harm and malicious property damage.

Otto has however now been granted a cash bail of 2 Million Shillings after he presented 3 sureties before the Pader Grade One Magistrate Edward Akwankwasa Bayo on Tuesday. 

His sureties including Kilak South MP Gilbert Olanya, Pader District Woman MP Catherine Doreen Oketayot Lowila, and the Chairperson Urban Council Pader, Kilama Wod’Acholi were each given a 4 million non-cash bond.

Bayo has warned the MP against involving himself in any activity that might disrupt the court process.

Otto was represented in court by his lawyers Charles Dalton of Dalton Opwonya and Co Advocates and his wife Juliet Oyulu Otto.

The Resident State Attorney, Patrick Ojara told court that the sureties produced by the accused defence lawyers were substantial.

Otto is accused of assaulting Henry Mugisha a driver of a Fuso truck registration UAR 234C and smashing the vehicle windscreen on May 6, 2018, at Ogan Kanakok, Pajule Sub-County in Pader district.

Otto however denied all the charges against him on Friday last week while appearing before the Grade One Magistrate Edward Akwankwasa.

He is also accused of 2 other cases that involve the assault on a journalist in 2019 while the case of illegal gun possession was 3 years ago.

Otto is expected to re-appear before the same Court on April 6.
