P7 Girl Gives Birth

A P7 candidate shocked her fellow students on Tuesday morning when she gave birth in the school compound minutes before her 1st paper.

The 15-year -old whose names have been withheld is a student of Sigirira Primary School in Ibanda district.

As candidates were getting set for the PLE mathematics paper, the helpless girl suddenly started feeling labor pains and screaming for assistance.

She was quickly rushed to a special room within the school where she pushed her tot out with the help of teachers and a midwife. Hounding Rains Hinder PLE Examination Process

Alex Arinaitwe, the school headteacher says it was a shock for all because the girl reported for exams with no sign of labour.

He however says the situation was swiftly handled and she was helped up until she dropped her baby boy.

Peter Nsimiire, the Ibanda District Inspector of Schools says the girl, whose condition remained stable even after delivery was allowed to do her first paper.

The Uganda National Examinations Board-UNEB has made provisions for all pregnant girls and lactating students to do final exams and have an extra 45 minutes of time.

Since the covid 19 lock-down in March 2020, teenage pregnancies in mostly learners skyrocketed to Thousands as a result of the closure of schools.

PLE started this morning across the country with P7 learners from the distorted 2020 academic year, sitting for the Mathematics paper.
