The National Unity Platform-NUP has sent its bulldog lawyer Medard Ssegonna to deliberate on behalf of the Kawempe North MP-elect Ssegirinya Muhammed aka Mr updates after his lawyers failed to get him bail on 8th April 2021.

Medard Ssegona has now joined Shamim Malende and Kinene Abdul and Kiryoowa Jonathan from KM advocates who failed to secure bail for the MP-elect.

Clad in a white shirt and a Muslim hat, Ssegirinya who is appearing via video conferencing at the Buganda Road court seems more confident that he will be released this time.

Segirinya meanwhile appears weak and frail as evidenced by the cannular on his left hand.

Last week while appearing before the presiding magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu , Ssegirinya was left in tears after his bail plea flopped and he was ordered back to the bedbug-infested coolers of Kitalya.

This happened after Ssegirinya’s lawyers contradicted each other on how to handle the proceedings hence the case being adjourned to today the 15th April 2021.

His legal team led by  Malende and Kinene Abdul and Kiryoowa Jonathan from KM advocates told the court they both had come under different instructions,

Kiryoowa Jonathan said he had come prepared for a bail application while Shamim Malende maintained it was a mention of the case.

Meanwhile, the prosecution also lead by Joan Keko the state prosecutor also told the court they had prepared 3 witnesses to testify which his lawyers were unprepared for.

The presiding magistrate Kamasanyu was compelled to push the case further.

Ssegirinya who went into panic mode pleaded for mercy saying he was ill and would miss his swearing-in as Mp Kawempe North, but an unbothered Kamasanyu proceeded to remand him further.

The prosecution alleges that on the 22nd of March 2021 while at Mini Price, downtown Kampala, Segirinya and a group of others still at large participated in a protest with placards demanding the release of political prisoners.

Ssegirnya was sent to jail on charges of inciting violence following a protest he held in downtown Kampala over the protracted detention of National Unity Platform-NUP members.
