Uganda Red Cross is looking to raise 235 billion shillings as an investment in a strategic plan for the next 5 years between 2021-2025.

The Strategic Plan 2021-2025 that was launched today at the Office of the Prime Minister -OPM is aligned to the Government Development Agenda for the social economic transformation of communities.

The government of Uganda will be working closely with the red cross to ensure this mandate is fulfilled.

While launching the investment plan in the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali who was invited on behalf of the Government said he was grateful for the effort the Redcross has put in saving lives and serving humanity in Uganda.

I thank the different stakeholders working closely with the Red Cross and the support extended to ensure that it has what it requires to fulfill its mandate.”Said, Moses Ali

According to the URCS General secretary,Robert Keasiga,in the the strategic plan,an average annual investment of 46bn will be required.

He cited the successful strategic plan for 2017-2020 which aimed at restoring the governance and leadership crisis,raising the numberof registered members from 150000 in 2017 to 450000 in 2020 accross 51 branches countrywide.

Keasiga says the strategy focused on rebuilding systems,structures and processes for effective operations.

Last month, the Parliament of Uganda in a record time amended the Uganda Red Cross Legislation. The revised Act has already been gazetted and is awaiting the Accent by His Excellency the President.

The revised Legislation has among others;updated the Uganda Red Cross mandates vis-à-vis the related international humanitarian commitments made by Uganda Government, protect the use of the Red Cross emblem, provide for Government funding and tax-free exemptions of the National Society activities.

Moses Ali says the Uganda government is committed to operationalizing those provisions such that the  Red Cross can do its work more efficiently and effectively.
