In order to resolve long-standing issues between the security forces and fourth estate ,the government has launched a countrywide drive aimed at mending fences.

The government Spokesperson and Executive Director of the Uganda Media Center says during the drive ,government officials will traverse the country to fonder ways on how to rectify the relationship between the 2 entities.

This follows a patchy relationship between journalists and security forces that have been characterized by violence, battering and badly injuring of journalists while on duty.

“So we government rebuild our relationship with media and media personalities that we are more sustainable, that way we think it is more productive, sustainable especially because the NRM government is a transparent and accountable government building a vibrant democracy and so we hope that this convergence should help us build that relationship. I was in Mbale, in Tororo and I have another team tackling Soroti and Karamoja, another team in Lango, West Nile, Bunyoro, and so on. Ofwono noted.

Journalists have always accused security organs of infringing on their right s by attacking and battering them while on duty.

In Febuary, soldiers beat up and injured a number of journalists who had gone to cover a petition by National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi to the UNHRC.

Last week 2 journalists Amon Kayanja of Salt Media and Teddy Nakaliga from Spark TV accused the military of beating them while covering protests by residents of Kayunga trading center in Wakiso town council over the prolonged power outage in their area.

Recently ,Robert Kagolo a journalist in, Nansana,Wakiso district was gunned down by an LDU as he returned from burial of his older brother who was kidnapped at killed.

The relationship between the government agencies especially security bodies and journalists has not been the best in the past years .
