Muslims Celebrate Eid-el-Fitr

Muslims across the world will on Thursday May 13th celebrate Eid-el-Fitr to mark one Month of Fasting .

Muslim faithful celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, as the 1st day of Shawaal that is comes after Ramadhan.

Ramadhan is the ninth month of the lunar Islamic calendar in which Muslims believe the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad.

The Eid celebrations were affirmed by the director of Sharia at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), Sheikh Twaibu Ali Mpanso.

Twaibu told the Muslim community that if the crescent was not sighted on Tuesday evening, then  Eid Fitr would automatically be celebrated on May 13 2021.

Meanwhile, the government under the Public Service has announced Thursday a public holiday to mark Eid-el-Fitr.

“The Honourable Minister of Public Service informs the general public that Thursday 13th May 2021 is Eid-el- Fitr and will be observed as a public holiday throughout Uganda,” the statement from the Ministry of Public Service reads.

Fasting is the fourth pillar of Islam commemorated by abstaining from drinking and eating from dates of the start of the month keep moving every year in the lunar calendar, which explains the varying starting and ending of fasting dates.
