Ssegirinya swearing in today after receiving invite from Parliament Clerk
From the look of things, comical politician Mr. Update, real names Muhammad Ssegirinya will swear in today as Member of Parliament today, Thursday 5th. Mr. Update was duly elected by the people of Kawempe North constituency to represent them in the August House.
To claim victory, he beat off competition from the likes of Suleiman Kidandala, Latif Ssebagala and others with a bigger margin. He was NUP’s flag bearer.
The sensational MP elect was officially invited to swear in a few weeks back and he is among the politicians expected to take the Oath today if all goes according to the plan.
However, will he successfully swear in?
Mr. Updated who has been bedridden for the past two months, quickly bounced back on his feet recently just days to swearing-in of elected legislators.
He had been admitted to Nairobi Hospital for specialized treatment after he complained of ear and abdominal complications following his release from Kitalya Prison.
The MP-elect could not stand as he was being assisted by caretakers in a wheelchair.
While on his sick-bed in Nairobi, Ssegirinya, in a recorded video clip said that he had been diagnosed with liver complications. He asked Ugandans to pray for him because someone wanted him dead.
Ssegirinya’s academic documents questioned
The Uganda National Examination Board(UNEB) has questioned the authenticity of the academic documents Ssegirinya submitted for nomination.
UNEB says that Ssegirinya submitted documents that belong to Sarah Nampiima at O-level while at A-level, he submitted documents that belong to Maureen Nabadda.
In a letter dated March 17, 2021, Peter Anywar, writing on behalf of the executive secretary UNEB Dan Odongo, noted: “We have checked in our records and our findings are as follows; Candidate U005/054(2017) is Nampiima Sarah who sat at Mengo secondary school, not Ssegirinya Richard sitting at Pimbas secondary school,” he noted.”
The Presidential Elections Act 2005, the Parliamentary Elections Act of 2005 and the Local Government Elections (amendment) Act 2005, require all prospective aspirants for positions of the President, Members of Parliament and district chairpersons to have completed a minimum formal education of advanced level standard by UNEB or its equivalent.
