The Makindye military court has granted bail to only 14 of the 35 National Unity Platform -NUP supporters who applied today.

The Army Court Chaired by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti released the 14 on grounds that they were unwell and needed to be treated outside the Kitalya prison.

Lt Gen Gutti released the 14 suspects on a noncash bail of 20 million shillings after they presented substantial sureties who have also bonded 50 million shillings each.

They have been ordered not to travel outside of Kampala and Wakiso districts without court’s permission and to report back to court twice a week on Wednesdays.

Among the sureties include NUP officials like; Central chairperson Mathius Mpuuga, Secretary-General David Rubongoya, Waswa Bufumbiro, spokesperson Joel Senyonyi.

Those released include Samson Sekiranda, Mude Ntambi Robison, Don Sharif, Katamba Robert, Kyabangu Pumper, Kigongo Faiso aka Ras Faizo, Mulilira Musa, Sam Mutumba, Mukasa Husein, Sunday John Bosco, Tamale Fahad and and Nyanzi William.

Court declined to grant 21 others bail including Bobi Wine’s close confidants Ali Bukeni aka Nubian Lee, Sebuwufu aka Eddie Mutwe, and producer Dan Magic.

They were were not released on bail because prosecution told court that their affidavits had not been fully examined.

The prisoners were arrested on December 30th 2020 during NUP campaigns in Kalangala district.

The prosecution alleges that the suspects on January 3, at Makerere Kavule Kigundu zone, found in possession of four rounds of ammunition which is a monopoly of the Defense Forces.

Meanwhile court has adjourned the bail application hearing for the 21 suspects to June 8th 2021.
