The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese in the Church of Uganda, Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira says Uganda needs the intervention of God if the increasing vises are to be eliminated.

While preaching to pilgrims present at the Anglican site in Nakiyanja- Namugongo, Wakiso district to mark martyrs day, Bishop Luwalira expressed dismay at the level of hate, corruption, organized crimes, and rampant killings.

The Bishop asked Christians to pray for the country saying its only Jesus Christ who can redeem the population and get rid of all the obstacles.

This year’s Martyr’s day celebrations were carried out scientifically at Namugongo with only 200 pilgrims invited to attend the function at both the Anglican and Catholic sited .

It was celebrated  under the theme: Life in its fullness John 10:10 at the Anglican martyrs site .

23 Anglicans, 22 Catholic, and 12 Muslim pages converted to Christianity between 1885-1887 angering the then Kabaka of Buganda King Mwanga II.

On June the 3rd 1886 the group refused to renounce Christianity which infuriated King Mwanga ,who ordered for them to be burnt to death.
