Police have thrown out claims that it has arrested suspected killers in the assassination of Gen Katumba Wamala’s Daughter and driver.
This follows rumors on various platforms that police and other security agencies had busted the criminals in their hideout at Bukoto and are holding them at the Special Investigations Division (SID) in Kireka.
Last week on Tuesday, unidentified assailants waylaid the General in his grey Toyota Land Cruiser Registration number H4DF2138 at Kisasi Kisota road and fired over 56 bullets that injured Gen. Katumba and claimed the lives of Brenda Nantongo and Haruna Kayondo.
Speaking at their headquarters in Naguru on Monday morning,, Police mouthpiece Fred Enanga says they have only identified people of interest in the ongoing investigations to help in providing information.
He says police has only recorded statements from people assumed to be witnesses to the shooting to aid in the investigations.
Enanga says police has made some strides in the investigations by gathering evidence from CCTV before and after the incident, carried out forensic analysis on the bullet Catridges and obtained good witness statements.
Security says 7 CCTV footages including 3 from private homes along Kisota road show how attackers shot at Gen Katumba’s vehicle and how they left the scene.
The whole incident lasted 11 minutes as recorded by security cameras.
”of course, there was speculation that some arrests have been made, but we want to tell you that we simply identified a few persons of interest-based on the information that they could have had knowledge about the incident, we recorded their statements, although we are not considering them as suspects so that speculation should not be there. ”Enanga said
He also says considering the sensitivity of the matter, Police is not ready to divulge any other details of the ongoing investigation yet.
