CID Headquarters Closed

The Criminal investigations Directorate -CID has resolved to temporarily close its head quarters in Kibuli after a surge in infections in the police force.

The order to send staff home was given by the CID boss Grace Akullo in an internal communication issued on Wednesday.

Akullo also directed that disinfection of the offices starts immediately for the next 3 days especially areas where civilians have always visited for assistance.

“Due to the prevailing situation of the Covid-19 (corona) pandemic, CID management has resolved to sanitize the CID headquarters starting 17/06/2021 to 20/06/2021. Staff under you shall be on call. We shall have the Director, Deputy Directors, Heads of Department/units and registry staff to come for work,” reads the Memo.

It has been established that the office has registered increasing cases of Covid 19 among its staff in the past 5 days.

A detective who spoke on condition of anonymity says the situation at the CID had worsened ,prompting action from the authorities .

“ I want to tell you very many people here [CID] have tested positive since last week. Almost every office has positive cases. We may resolve to work from home if the situation worsens,” the detective said.

Meanwhile Naguru police headquarters has also ordered all cops who have not vaccinated to keep away from the premises.

Records show that only 26,550 out of close to 47,000 police personnel had been vaccinated. In Kampala Metropolitan policing only 7833 out 13,000 have been vaccinated.

Police received 20,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines but others were catered for under local government programs.
