Gov’t Delivers Mosquito Nets

The Ministry of Health has flagged off the distribution of mosquito nets to vendors camping at market sites.

Market vendors spending sleepless nights at market sites now have a reason to at least rest following the donation of nets that started on Wednesday morning.

This follows a directive by President Yoweri Museveni to the ministry of health to ensure all vendors receive mosquito nets following his order to sleep in the markets.

The president said this will help to reduce contact with family members, as a measure to control the spread of COVID-19.

“Food market vendors should revert to the position of March 2020 and stay at their places of work. The ministry of health should give them free bed nets so that they are not bitten by mosquitoes but when you sleep do not be together because we have found in the army that that causes infections,” Museveni said.

Dr. Diana Atwine the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, says the nets being distributed by the MOH are a donation from Quality Chemicals Limited and the ministry.

We have got 2000 mosquito nets from Quality Chemicals Limited and the Ministry of Health will add 3000 nets to make it 5000. We want to ensure everyone who sleeps in the market gets a net.”

She adds that this will goa long way in preventing Malaria which is another concern in Uganda.

As the country battles the Covid pandemic, malaria is another risk especially to the traders who sleep in markets. The mosquito nets will come in handy to them,” Atwine said.

The distibution exercise that commenced at Nakasero Market will spread to other markets accross the Kampala Metropolitan like St Balikudembe among others.

Dr.Atwine also praised the vendors for honouring the president’s directive and staying at their places of work.
