Prof Ogwang Cautions Public
The maker of the trending Covidex natural herb has warned the public to stop purchasing the drug from individuals at unreasonable prices.
Covidex was last week approved by the National Drug Authority-NDA as a supplementary treatment for Covid 19.
Prof. Patrick Ogwang says a section of individuals who are over-inflating its price to benefit themselves.
In a virtual joint press conference on Covidex and its distribution on Monday, Prof. Ogwang said Ugandans should instead visit licensed pharmacies to buy Covidex.
“To the public, buy Covidex from a licensed pharmacy and hospitals. Don’t buy from individuals. We (Jena Herbal Limited) want to focus on the research and manufacturing of Covidex and let other companies like Rocket Health handle the distribution. We are working hard to ensure every part of the country accesses Covidex,” Prof Ogwang said.
Prof Ogwang says they are working to ensure a surplus of the drug at reasonable and fair pricing.
Ogwang says COVIDEX should not go beyond Shs12000 at a licensed pharmacy.
“The price of COVIDEX should be between Shs6000 – Shs12000, no one should purchase it more than that,” says Prof Ogwang.

“The first price was UGX 3,000 but because we had to get more workers, we increased the factory price to UGX 6,000, Jena Herbals Limited’s objective is to help people. All our products are affordable. When we developed Covidex, we knew the demand was high but our company principal is humanity first,” he said.
Prof Ogwang also says pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should get medical advice before using the medicine.
He says those subject to bad reactions from the drug are pregnant with underlying illnesses.
“Pregnant women, please consult with your medical worker. We have heard some issues of Covidex causing contractions, those with underlying health conditions and breastfeeding mothers, please consult with your health workers.” Prof. Ogwang said.
