The government has confirmed releasing 14.7 billion shillings to the masses as a relief cash package in the covid19 lockdown.

This means about 38 per cent of the targeted beneficiaries are walking to mobile money points across the country to withdraw their funds.

However, the intended target is 501,107 households, representing 5 persons per household across Kampala Metropolitan, 11 cities and at least 30 municipalities countrywide.

Gender and labour Minister Betty Amongi while addressing a presser at the Uganda Media Center-UMC says over 140.000 individuals had been cleared by 10 am on Tuesday.

”As of 10:00 am this morning, a total of 143,642 beneficiaries had been paid which is a percentage of 38% and amounting go 14,712,531,850 shillings,” Amongi said.

This comes from 377,021 names and data of beneficiaries from 31 out of 42 cities and municipalities.

Amongi has also partly attributed the sluggish distribution of the funds to inconsistencies in the details of some names forwarded that she says contradicts their National Identification Numbers-NIN.

Telephone numbers registered under different names from the national ID names, non-mobile money registered numbers, non-existent/unregistered telephone numbers.”

She explains that of 377,021 records submitted to the ministry, 150, 915 records did not pass successful verification against telecom databases.

She says that names with errors have been sent back for correction at their areas of origin for correction or for payment using the PostBank mobile facility for payment.
