The gender Ministry says there is still a ray of hope for vulnerable Ugandans who missed out in the recent phase of the Covid19 relief cash.

The government on Friday last week concluded the exercise of sending 100,000 shillings relief cash to beneficiaries in 16 categories.

This is with the exception of registered persons whose details had errors in NINs and mobile numbers that are still being rectified.

Data of over 174,000 individuals was rejected by the ministry and sent back to the Town Clerks for further scrutiny.

Their payments shall be made manually using the mobile facility of Post Bank after re-verification by the Town Clerks.

However, the process that targeted 501,107 households has left many vulnerable groups out and still in need of gov’t support.

The ministry of Gender Permanent Secretary Aggrey Kibenge explains that this phase was targeted to benefit individuals and families living in urban areas whose work had been halted as a result of the lockdown.

He however states that they will continue to support needy groups with social protection programs.

Kibenge says much as all Ugandans have been affected by the covid-19 pandemic, the government has no capacity to dole out aid to everyone now.

The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja launched the COVID-19 Relief fund to support the vulnerable groups of people affected by the country’s second lockdown intended to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The government allocated Shs53bn for this cause with each beneficiary will receiving Shs102,400.
