James Kakooza has replaced the late Mathias Kasamba as the representative in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA)
In by-elections that happened on Monday at parliament, Kakooza won unopposed, scooping 183 votes.
This makes him the 9th MP to represent Uganda in the East African Legislative Assembly.
Hon Kakooza is an NRM member and the former Kabula County, the legislator was endorsed by the Parliamentary Caucus to replace his predecessor who died in April this year.
Kasamba who was already serving in EALA on the NRM ticket succumbed to covid 19 after being hospitalized in a Kampala hospital for 3 days after collapsing at his residence.
Deputy Speaker Anita Among declared Kakooza as a duly elected member of EALA.
He now joins the other representatives elected to EALA by Uganda on 28th February 2017.
These include Rose Akol Okullo (NRM), PauI Musamali (NRM), George Odongo (NRM), Mary Mugyenyi (NRM), Dennis Namara (NRM), Chris Opoka (UPC), Fred Mukasa Mbidde (DP) and Susan Nakawuki (Independent).
