Vaccinate Children Under 15yrs

Children with health complications under the age of 15years are the next priority target for vaccination against the deadly COVID19.

As the country prepares to receive 647,000 doses of the US-made Pfizer vaccine, this anytime from now, children will health complications are at the top list of those to receive jabs.

The vaccines will come under the World Health Organization -WHO, COVAX facility.

Monica Musenero, a senior presidential advisor on pandemics told Xinhua China news, Monday;

“Uganda is hoping to get doses of Pfizer vaccine and when we get them, we can vaccinate children. They are a few doses, so we shall only vaccinate those children who are at risk of severe disease,” said Musenero, who is also the minister of science and technology.

Musenero describes high-risk children as those with diabetes, high blood pressure, sickle cell anemia, or any other disease which puts them in harm’s way.

Musenoro says”Pfizer was approved for use in children who are 12 years and above,”.

She explains “Those children who fall in that category cannot be vaccinated using AstraZeneca because it is not approved for use in anybody below 18 years but with Pfizer, we can vaccinate those children,”.

Vaccinate Children Under 15yrs

Besides Pzifer, Uganda is set to receive another donation of AstraZeneca from the Sinovac vaccine in China.

The Ministry of Health has also announced that the country is set to receive a donation of 586,080 doses of AstraZeneca Covid vaccines from the Norway Government under dose sharing through the Covax facility, at the end of this week.

Scientists in the government have recommended vaccinating at least 21 million Ugandans to build hard immunity .

President Yoweri Museveni has been on record saying for the economy to fully open,at least 4.8 million persons must be vaccinated fully.

Uganda has so far vaccinated over 1.1 million people against the virus.
