Parliament Account’s committee-PAC has given the Kampala Capital City Authority –KCCA up to Wednesday this week to account for the money spent in collecting data for beneficiaries of relief cash.
PAC has been given the mandate to review lists of beneficiaries who received 100,000 Shillings from 501,107 households across the country.
KCCA interfaced with a joint parliamentary team, comprising the Public and Local Government Accounts committees on Monday.
During the meeting, the Minister of State for Kampala Kabuye Kyofatogabye said the 100 m was distributed across all 5 divisions of Kampala.
He explains that 20m was disbursed to Town clerks in the divisions who were dealing with Gombolola and parish internal Security officers-ISOs.
A total of 157,474 beneficiaries were targeted for Kampala and quotas for each division were set.
Central was given a target of 7,440, Lubaga 38,981, Nakawa 27,673, Makindye 40,098, and Kawempe 43,282.
Ik County MP Hillary Lokwang demanded that KCCA provides accountability for the 100 million Shillings spent by the five divisions to collect data.
He also said that this should be accompanied by lists of the beneficiaries.
Asuman Basalirwa, the Vice-Chairperson PAC, therefore, directed that the Minister presents accountability for the money .
Kabuye said that accountability would be presented to the committee on Wednesday.
Henry Musasizi, the state minister for Finance told the same committee earlier that the government spent a total of Shs 2.854 billion on administrative costs including sending fees in the process of dispatching Shs50 billion COVID-19 relief cash to the beneficiaries.
The government was supposed to distribute 100,000 Shillings to 501,107 selected beneficiaries who were classified as vulnerable during the 42-day lockdown.
