Speaker Among has told lazy ministers she has no beds for them in the house!

Parliament returned from recess this week after Speaker Among sent MPs to establish progress of the Emyooga funds disbursed to their constituencies.

Speaker Among warning followed the presence of only 5 ministers in the house and several said to be outside the house.

Anger boiled in the house after Abed Bwanika Kimaanya/Kabonera Constituency MP, raised a matter of national importance where two of his people were killed by machete holding people.

The government chief whip Tayebwa rose up to inform the house that the ministers concerned were not in and requested for time to consult with them.

The deputy speaker Among decided to adjourn the house to Tuesday next week but warned that continued absence of ministers will not be tolerated.

Stray Animals from national parks

The Deputy Speaker @AnitahAmong has instructed the Minister of Tourism to visit all areas where animals have been reported to be escaping from gazetted National Parks and Game Reserves into people’s gardens.

She has instructed the Minister present a report to the house. Members of Parliament have called upon the government through Uganda Wildlife Authority to prioritize the fencing of risky areas of National parks.

This comes as result of animals straying and escaping from gazetted areas and attacking people and their gardens.

Achan Judith the Nwoya District Woman MP expressed her concern about the increasing instability by animals that escape from gazetted National Parks and Game reserves.

MP Achan Judith says that men can no longer sleep in their homes because they spend the nights guarding crops.

@AbabikuJ has told Parliament that it is becoming tiresome for MPs being blamed for not following up on issues of the locals when they are attacked by animals from National Parks and Game reserves.

Speaker Among blasted: “We need action oriented Ministers. Don’t come lamenting here, that you know .. you see !; When you’re given an opportunity to serve as Minister you must make sure that you perform in that position.”

Speaker Among has reminded the Ministers to strictly adhere to the Law while executing their mandate, failure of which they will each be held accountable. She emphasizes that the President enjoys ” Presidential Immunity”.

Sugarcane prices

The State Minister for Cooperatives Gume Fredrick Ngobi has presented a statement on the arrangements by government to address the slump in sugarcane prices due to bumper harvests and surpluses in the Busoga Sub-region.

Report on Afghanistan refugees

Esther Anyakun the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness has promised to present a detailed report to Parliament about the looming arrival of Afghanistan refugees in the country.

Government agencies

Speaker Among has instructed the Minister of Public Service Muruli Mukasa to provide the list of the names of the government agencies that shall be merged and rationalized before presenting a report on the Rationalization.

Compensation Lies

Anthony Akol, Kilak North MP: The NRM government has continuously used compensation of people as a campaign tool but the people have not seen any money. It has become a song by politicians and President that people will be compensated but nothing has been done.

Ojara Mapenduzi Bardege-Layibi Division, Gulu City, has said that the people are tired of lies by the government about compensation. He wonders why verification processes are done but people end up not being paid.

Atkins Katusabe Bukonzo West MP: There is no way the government can start compensating areas affected by insurgencies without including Kasese. He noted that Kasese was affected by the ADF insurgencies and as such victims have never been compensated
