Top Goalscorers Of All-time

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goalscoring exploits have hit the headlines again after he become the all-time leading scorer in men’s international football on Wednesday night.

After leaving Euro 2020 tied with Iran’s Ali Daie on 109 goals, he scored twice late on as Portugal stunned the Republic of Ireland.

10) Tulio Maravilha – 575 goals

Something of a journeyman in Brazil, Tulio Maravilha scored wherever he went.

The striker scored more than 500 goals during his 24-year career, although he personally claimed to reach the 1,000 goal milestone in 2014 after including friendlies and amateur games.

9) Uwe Seeler – 575 goals

Hamburg and West Germany icon Uwe Seeler also bagged 575 goals across his glittering career.

In stark contrast to Maravilha, Seeler was largely a one-club man, although his one-off appearance in the League of Ireland for Cork Celtic FC, six years after his retirement, saw him score twice in 1978.

8) Ferenc Deak – 576 goals

Just edging into eighth on the list, Hungarian hitman Ferenc Deak is perhaps the most prolific goalscorer on the list.

At his first club, Szentlorinci AC, he averaged over three goals per game with 220 strikes in just 72 games, before hitting another 200 in just 140 games for giants Ferencvaros.

7) Gerd Muller – 735 goals

He won the Golden Boot at the 1970 World Cup and winning the 1974 World Cup as well as the 1972 European Championship.

However, he was equally impressive at club level – bagging over 500 times for a dominant Bayern Munich side.

With 735 goals in only 793 matches, the powerhouse striker is rightly regarded amongst the greatest strikers of all-time.

6) Ferenc Puskas – 746 goals

The common denominator in what are considered two of the greatest teams of all-time, Ferenc Puskas is one of football’s most iconic players.

The Hungarian maestro was the goalscoring star of the “Magnificent Magyars” national side and Real Madrid’s 1960 European Cup winners.

His iconic, powerful left foot did the bulk of the work as the skillful attacker scored 746 times in just 754 games.

5) Lionel Messi – 748 goals

Rival Ronaldo hit the headlines this week, but Lionel Messi is also closing in on the 800 mark.

The Argentinian playmaker has been prolific for club and country throughout his career.

After scoring over 650 of his goals for Barcelona, Messi now enters a new chapter at Paris Saint-Germain.

On the international stage, he also has more than 70 goals and now a Copa America to his name.

4) Pele – 767 goals

There is no doubt Pele is one of the greatest players of all-time.

But the extent of his goalscoring exploits is the subject of much debate.

The three-time World Cup winner claims to have a tally of 1281 goals in 1363 games, regarded as a world record.

However, that personal tally includes a host of amateur matches, unofficial friendlies and other unrecorded fixtures.

We’ve gone with his tally in official matches, which still stands at an impressive 767 from 831 games, featuring 538 goals in league matches and 77 international goals.

3) Romario – 772 goals

Like Pele and their fellow Brazilian Tulio Maravilha, Romario reckons he has scored over 1,000 goals.

That milestone was widely celebrated when he struck what he claimed to be his 1000th for Vasco da Gama back in 2007.

He also includes a number of friendlies, benefit matches and even youth matches in his number, however.

In official fixtures, the striker still has a huge 772 goals to his name from 994 games.

The 1994 World Cup winner struck most of his goals in the Brazilian top flight, but also added 55 for Brazil and well over 200 in Europe during his time with PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Valencia.

2) Cristiano Ronaldo – 785 goals

After his late double against the Republic of Ireland, Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for the most goals in men’s international football with 111.

Factor in his frightening goalscoring exploits at club level, and you can certainly make a case that he is the greatest goalscorer of all-time.

He is top of the list for active players, and will now return to Manchester United aiming to chase down the 800 mark.

He already has 118 goals for the Red Devils from his first spell, as well as scoring 450 for Real Madrid and over 100 for Juventus.

1) Josef Bican – 805 goals

In a list of superstars, it is the little-known Josef Bican who has the greatest goalscoring record of all-time.

A star in the 1930s, helping Austria reach the semi-finals of the 1934 World Cup, Bican racked up a stunning 534 goals in 274 official matches for Slavia Prague between 1937 and 1948.https://get-latest.convrse.media/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mirror.co.uk%2Fsport%2Ffootball%2Fnews%2F10-top-goalscorers-time-after-24891136&cre=bottom&cip=69&view=web

The two-footed, pacey attacker scored at least 805 goals, with date from the 1952 season said to be partially missing, and his exact total is unknown.

Interestingly, he also played international football for three sides – Austria between 1933 and 1936, Czechoslovakia between 1938 and 1949 with a single game for Bohemia and Moravia in 1939.
