Villa unveils new coach

Uganda Premier League record 16-time winners SC Villa unveiled new coach Petros Koukouras in a brief function held at the club’s offices in Industrial Area.

Koukouras, a 35-year- old Greek, has signed a three-year contract with the club.

Koukouras has a UEFA A license and is familiar with regional football having had a stint as an assistant coach of the of South Sudanese national team.

“Our new coach comes with more than 10 years of experience in youth and senior football. The fans should know that this new technical team is very diligent, and are here to work,” said the club’s Chief Executive Office, Shawn Mubiru.

He replaces Edward Kaziba who has been at the club for the last two seasons.

Koukouras joins a list of expatriate coaches such as Geoff Hudson (United Kingdom), Micho (Serbia), Zivojnov Srdjan (Serbia) and Antonio Flores (Spain) to have coached the Jogoos.

Addressing the audience, the Greek expressed enthusiasm for his new assignment.

“I am very happy to be here, this is the most successful team and that led me to accept the job.,” he said, adding, 

“I can’t promise much. We will create a team that is hard working and take the team where it belongs. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”

Koukouras, who has been in Uganda for a few days, met the players as the club prepares for the new season.

Work is cut out for the new technical team as they seek to revive the lost glory for the record league winners who also have nine Uganda Cups and three CECAFA Kagame Cup titles under their belts.
