UCC bans gossip shows
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has issued a stern directive banning all Television stations in Uganda from hosting gossip shows between 10 pm and 5 am starting Wednesday this week.
In a directive furnished to all media houses UCC has warned that it will not hesitate to withdraw the license of those who fail to adhere to this directive.
The order comes on the heels of complaints about presenters using abusive language towards guests and various personalities.
UCC further states that the language and statements the presenters use with their guests are often abusive, demeaning, derogatory, and is not suitable for viewing audiences.

“They contain adult content, sexual innuendos, and profanity, with potential to disturb and harm some members of the public especially the children. The Commission shall proceed to institute other appropriate regulatory sanctions, including but not limited to suspension of your broadcasting license”. The directive takes effect on Wednesday.the statement reads in part
The regulatory body has also warned presenters against indecent dressing during the shows.
Early this month UCC summoned ‘Lugambo’ presenters from eleven television stations in Kampala over allegations of abusive language. These includes Spark TV’s Live Wire, NBS TV’s Uncut Sabula – Uncut Kalakata, Kingdom TV’s Kapyaki, Dream TV’s Tik-Tak Sesetula, BTM TV’s Access, BBS TV’s Round-About and Baba TV’s Poko Poko among others.
