Muhoozi has told Parliament, officers who were on duty and the owner of Digida Bar will have to explain why the pork joint operated beyond curfew time.
Gen. David Muhoozi, state minister of internal affairs presented a statement on incidents of two bomb explosions; one that occurred in Komamboga and another one on a swift Safaris Passenger Bus in Lugala Mpigi District on Kampala- Masaka Highway.
The former army chief who now represents the army in Parliament has informed the house that Disciplinary action will be taken against officers who were in charge of the area of Komamboga. He also said that the owner of the Digida bar will be apprehended in accordance with the law.
Gen. Muhoozi was responding to Erute County South MP Jonathan Odur’s question on whether commanders who were in charge of the area had been arrested and dealt with appropriately to assure the public that police are in charge.
He further told the house that everyone has a role to play in tackling the issue of terrorists. Muhoozi added that there is a need to maintain calm and everyone must be vigilant through their actions and statements that are made in public.
He went on to inform the house that the leader of Uganda HomeLand Liberation Front Horward Openjulu and his group was apprehended and is in custody. Uganda Homeland Liberation Front is linked to Kodeko, a Militia in DRC.
MPs weighed in on Gen. Muhoozi’s statement by calling on security not to take the explosions lightly and step up efforts to sensitize the population.
John Baptish Nambeshe, the opposition chief whip in Parliament urged: “A terrorist attack whether domestic or not should not be underestimated in any way because terrorist organisations have links everywhere.”
Kalungu West MP Joseph Ssewungu called on: “Don’t fear the president, tell him. If you are sitting on the front bench but you can’t tell the president what is exactly happening and you are senior in intelligence and army then you are not helping the country.”
Ssewungu added: “We need continuous education and sensitization for our masses about these sensitive matters. We need to stop politicizing these matters, especially by some police officers like Enanga who said that the people who were at the place were wearing red.”
Shadow Minister of Internal Affairs and MP Mukono North, Abdallah Kiwanuka demanded to know whether the owner of the bar was arrested. He asked why the Minister could not tell house commanders of Police of the area were arrested since they slept on duty.
Army MP Col. Charity Bainababo called upon MPs to sensitize the public about the terror threats especially in such times.
Elijah Okupa Kasilo County MP tasked Gen. Muhoozi to explain to the house whether curfew is still being enforced across the country and why the bar was open.
Okupa alerted the minister: “Some bars are operating in the night with the police guarding them.”
