Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela a city business tycoon has been sworn in as the new President of Sports Club Villa following his unopposed election. All this happened at Mandela sports complex in Industrial area.

The development puts an end to a recent struggle for the record 16-time winners to find proper administration since Eng Ben Misagga resigned in 2018.

Mandela, who announced his presidential bid last week, was the only successful candidate after the closure of nominations.

“We have not come here to say a lot of things but we have come to work, we have lots of things to accomplish. It is time to take back Sports club Villa where it belongs”. Hajji Omar Mandela narrates.

The Villa Electoral Committee earlier confirmed that the other aspirant Farouk Mewya had picked nomination forms but he returned incomplete forms.

Mandela was handed the instruments of Authority to guide him in execution of his duties from Interim Committee Chairman William Nkemba.

The development marks a new dawn for the club that last won the league title in 2004. This process started earlier when Dennis Mbidde and Medard Sseggona were confirmed as the two candidates for the Villa Presidency last August.

But in dramatic turn of events, on August 28, the Elections were stopped following a court injunction after Brenda Nambalirwa Kawuma filed a petition.

Shortly after, FUFA ordered Villa to put their house in order saying that the club was already ‘behind schedule’ for 2021/22 Season Club Licensing.

Villa then resolved to return to interim committee.
