Suspected terrorist

Uganda Police has confirmed the arrest of a terror suspect and mastermind of an explosion on a Swift Safari company bus in Lungala,Mpigi district in October.

24-year-old Isma Kiyemba, a resident of Makandwa village was busted from his hideout in  Kajjansi town council, Wakiso district on Tuesday following days of tracking by JAT.  

Police says that the suspect assembled the explosive device that was used in carrying out the attack on the bus.

A suicide bomber identified as Isaac Matovu aka Muzafaru detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the bus that traveling from Kampala.

Fred Enanga the police spokesperson says the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JAT) and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) captured the suspect with various bomb making materials beleived to be for another deadly mission.

Enanga says they recovered materials including chemical fluids, five capacitors, electric and copper wires, batteries, a digital timer, two electric motors, five mobile phones, sim cards, and black visa cards among others.  

“the suspect assembled the homemade explosive that was detonated by his colleague Matovu Muzafaru,he was also in the process of assembling another IED on the instructions of an Allied Democratic Forces-ADF commander whose details he has availed to the joint task team”

Enanga says the suspect was recruited and under the instructions of a Muslim Cleric on the run identified as Imam Suliman Nsubuga

“We have established that he was recruited and radicalized into the ADF cells in Lweza and Kajansi areas by the Imam who is still at large into. At the time of his arrest, he was found with a written will and planned mission to execute,” Enanga explained

Kiyemba’is the second terror suspect to be arrested in connection to the explosion on the Swift Safari bus .Another suspect identified as Yusuf Muwonge, was arrested recently. He revealed to security said that the IED was detonated by Muzafaru.

Security organs are currently holding 106 terror suspects at the Special Investigations Division (SID) in Kireka and CMI headquarters in Mbuya.
