Pregnant woman found dead

Locals in Kabonera constituency, Masaka City, this morning woke up to the shocking news of a pregnant student who was found dead in her room on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Phionah Ankunda, 23 a resident of Kimaanya A, Kimaanya-Kabonera constituency in Masaka City. Locals claim that Ankundah has been healthy and well prior to the fatal incident.

Ankunda was a student studying a bachelor’s in Education at Kabale University. Some neighbours to the deceased told the Daily Monitor that she lived a quiet life alone in her single room and hardly had any visitors.

Ankunda was reportedly found by her Landlord lying dead on the ground, next to a sauce pan of water.

 “Our landlord, Hajara Babirye, came back at around 11pm and found her room open. She called her and there was no response which prompted her to enter the room only to find Ankunda lying dead near a saucepan full of water,” Christine Nalumagga, a neighbour to the deceased told the Daily Monitor.

Ankunda’s workmate identified as Joan Mirembe says the deceased had asked for a leave from office to attend a burial at her home village in Kabale.

 “Akunda has been healthy and fine although she was at her work place on Monday and asked for permission to go to Kabale to attend a relatives burial and we thought she was there already, ” Mirembe narrated.

Police says the body of the deceased to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.
