Uganda Prisons Authorities have confirmed that a fatal accident in Lyantonde district involving male inmates traveling from Kabula County Prison has claimed two lives and injured many.
The accident happened on Wednesday morning at 8:30 pm Katovu near Lyantonde district while ten prisoners and two wardens were headed out for labour.
According to the Uganda Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine,the deceased have been identified as Isheme Willy alias Regan a cattle thief and Kagwa John charged with theft.
Baine explains that seven others sustained injuries from the accident and have been rushed to Lyantonde Regional Refferal Hospital for treatment.These include five inmates minor injuries,one prison warden two are in a critical state.
He says preliminary investigations indicate that the Officer in Charge (OC) of Kabula Prison did not follow the administrative by the Commissioner General of Prisons regarding transportation of prisoners.
