Police in Mbale City have launched investigations into circumstances under which a fifty year old inmate died in cells at Maluku government prison.  

Abudu Omodo who has been on remand in prison on murder charges was first discovered unconscious in the cells a after he allegedly vomited severally. He was later transferred to the health facility at the prison where he died shortly after he arrived.

Rogers Taitika Police Spokes person Elgon sub -region says they have obtained statements from the leadership of the Maluku Prison which will aid in their investigations. He adds that prison warders on duty when the incident happened have also recorded statements at Mbale Central Police Station.

The body has been taken to Mbale City mortuary pending for postmortem

Last month, an inmate died in the cells of Mutufu government prison in Sironko district after he developed a minor illness. The deceased was Peter Manyasi, 39, a resident of Bugiri district.
