Man slits girlfriend’s throat
Police in Kanungu district are holding a 40-year-old man for slitting the neck of his girlfriend in a domestic fight on Monday evening.
The suspect, Nicholas Ampereza, a resident of Kanyambeho village in Nyakinoni Sub County reportedly slashed Peace Namara, 27, on the throat after accusing her of dumping him for another man.
Namara, who is a bar attendant in Kanyambeho Trading Centre returned home at around 06:00PM on Monday and broke up with Ampereza, saying she was committing to another love affair.
The Kanyambeho village Local Council One Chairperson, Baker Turyatunga, says Ampereza was deeply offended by Namara’s decision to leave him considering that the two had been cohabiting as a couple for a long time.
Turyatunga told police that Ampereza, in a fit of rage, grabbed a sharp machete and chopped Namara’s throat, killing her instantly.
Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, obtained the blood-stained machete from the scene and is holding it as an exhibit as investigations continue. He says Ampereza is currently in custody at Kihihi Police Station where a murder case has been reported under case vide CRB 001/ 2022.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV pending postmortem.
