Salah took centre stage when the referee blew the final whistle in the barren 120 minutes game between his Egypt side and the Ivory Coast.

Mo Salah and his Egypt advanced to the quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations being played in Cameroon.

The Liverpool star took the last penalty that saw his side knock Ivory Coast out of the Afcon.

But it was vivid Mo Salah controlled the events leading to the successful penalty kicks.

The Egypt captain could be seen picking out teammates who he felt could do the job for their nation.

His coaches led by Portuguese Carlos Quieroz could be seen joining in on Salah’s rallying call to get the five penalty takers for the team.

Former Sir Alex Ferguson assistant at Manchester United Quieroz looked comfortable with the Liverpool man taking charge of the proceedings.

It looked easy for Salah who then led the team to a group prayer before Zizo went for the team’s first penalty assignment.

Indeed Salah’s choices pulled off the massive duty to get the team from the dead end to victory.

They included Zamalek winger Zizo, Al Ahly midfielder Amr El Solia, Future defenders Omar Kamal and Mohamed Abdelmonem and Salah himself who took the winning penalty.

Ivory Coast were unfortunate when Eric Baily saw his penalty saved by Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

Baily plays for Manchester United in the English Premier League.

Nicholas Pepe of Arsenal, PSV star Ibrahim Sangare, Burnley forward Maxwell Cornet and Crystal Palace playmaker Wilfred Zaha scored for Ivory Coast.

Arsenal midfielder Mohammed Elneny turned down Salah’s request to take a penalty.

Elneny who had a great day at the heart of his team’s midfield, could be seen showing signs to the team captain not to consider him for the tough call.

Mo Salah and his Egypt team will now face Morocco in the quarterfinals of the Afcon.
