10-year-old girl dies

Police in Kyankwanzi District are hunting for a Boda boda rider believed to be behind the brutal rape of a 10-year-old girl.

Police says the victim,former primary three pupil at Bambala primary school was lured into a nearby banana plantation by the unidentified Boda Boda rider while on her way home from school suspected investigating the aggravated defilement and death of a by an unidentified person. Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police Public Relations Officer, says that the deceased was defiled on February 10, 2022, around 7 pm. 

Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police Public Relations Officer, says the victim made a stop at a nearby trading center to buy sugarcane before proceeding to her uncle’s residence to rest. Shortly after, she started her journey home but was stopped along the road by the Boda boda rider ,also a resident of Ntwetwe.

The motorcyclist reportedly convinced the minor that he had been instructed by her mother to pick a bunch of bananas with her from the garden along Muwangi – Ntwetwe Road. 

Kawala, says the victim immediately boarded the Boda boda but upon reaching nearby coffee plantation belonging to one Nsabimana,he suddenly stopped and forcefully pulled her into the coffee plantation where he aggressively defiled her.

10-year-old girl dies

The minor remained unconscious until 8 pm when she regained her conscience and walked back home slowly with a blood stained dress and in alot of pain. She would later narrate what happened to her mother, who also informed the police, and a case of aggravated defilement was opened at Ntwetwe Police Station. 

The girl who had sustained large tears to her private parts was rushed and admitted to Ntwetwe Health Centre IV where she died on Saturday, February 12, 2022.

“We strongly condemn such senseless acts of violence and urge parents and caretakers to always be vigilant and closely monitor movements of their children,”Kawala said

The annual crime police report 2020 shows that 14,230 girls were defiled in Uganda in the year 2020 an increase of 3.8 percent from 13613 in 2019.

Of the 14230, 9,954 victims were between the age of 15 and 17 whereas 2,986 were between the age of 14 and nine and 1,280 were below the age of eight.

According to the report, Katwe Police Division in Kampala registered the highest number of defilement cases with 252 followed by Kamuli with 236, Mbale (230), Buyende(207), Mukono(193), Tororo(188), Buikwe(186), Kiryandongo (185) and Luweero (174) as the top ten districts.
