Police in Kampala has rescued a total of five siblings vending boiled maize and sweet bananas after being trafficked by an unidentified woman.

The five victims all residents of Namawa village ,Nawaikoke subcounty in Kaliro District are biological daughters to one Naigaga Mariam.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, Naigaga was approached by a strange woman on the run who requested to adopt and educate her daughters in high profile schools in Kampala. Enanga says Naigaga, without doing a background check or confirming the identity of the woman bought into the lie and handed the girls to her.

He says police later captured the girls vending boiled maize and sweet bananas on the streets of Kampala.

“Without getting details or the contact,or even due diligence Naigaga gave her daughters to the Woman only known to her by face, This woman turned all the girls into illegal street vendors selling boiled maize and sweet bananas, instead of taking them to school.”He says

The siblings have since been identified as Namugose Joweli, Namugose Hawula, Nairuba Aliba, Nuruh Kasiga and NangobI .

He adds that Police has recovered all the five, and handed them back to their family. Meanwhile, a hunt has been launched for the suspect to be charged with child trafficking.

In a related development, A man in Kabalagala, Yoram Zone, Lukuli Parish has been netted by police for trafficking 18 children and housing them in makeshift structures. Sirajji Munil Kabala was reported to police in Kabalagala by locals after the kids complained of mistreatment.

Kabala had trafficked the children between 14 to 16 years and was using them to run his errands illegally and at his will.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says Kabala lied to the parents that he was going to educate alll childern in fancy schools. However, he resorted to only teaching them Islam at home.

Enanga has asked the parents to these children to immediately pick them up.
