Police authorities have failed to reveal the whereabouts of vocal politician and Kawempe South Member of Parliament, Mubarak Munyagwa. Munyagwa a Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) member has been reported missing since Sunday when he was reportedly kidnapped and whisked off in a drone ride by unidentified security operatives.

The motor mouthed politician was reportedly on his way to NBS television to participate in a talk show when he was waylaid at Masanafu by the numberless drone with plain clothed men armed with guns, he  hasn’t been located since then.

In a latest development, Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says they are just hearing of his arrest via social media as they have not received a formal complaint at any of the police stations related to his sudden disappearance. He says neither police nor affiliated security organs including Crime Intelligance or Criminal Investigations Directorate have confirmed his whereabouts.

Enanga told a media briefing on Monday that circumstances surrounding is alleged kidnap are still being investigated.

We have not got any direct complaint or report about the allegedly abduction but we have only heard and seen about it on social media. The circumstances are not clear and we only saw reports indicating he was intercepted by a drone on his way for a talk show on NBS TV. None of Crime Intelligence or CID directorates has confirmed having arrested him. This means investigations into the said abduction are ongoing.”He says

On Sunday his party, FDC claimed in a statement on twitter that Munyagwa was kidnapped at gunpoint by NRM government and taken to unknown destination.

He was kidnapped at gun point by a gang of armed men, and whisked away in a drone to an unknown destination; we condemn and fight NRM political persecution,“ the statement reads

This is not the first time that the legislator has been reported missing. Prior to 2011 general elections, Munyagwa, then a candidate for Kawempe South Parliamentary seat, reportedly faked his own abduction to seek political favour from his constituents. He was later found and proceeded to win elections that time.

He contested again in the January 14, 2021 polls but lost to his rival in the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Bashir Mbaziira Kazibwe.

Despite being an opposition member, Munyagwa has often criticized his fellow colleagues in the opposition for being hypocrites in a fight to oust the current regime. Recently, he threw tantrums at the NUP for conniving with the ruling NRM to fool the public.

“Some have already bought houses in the US. They are heavily funded by the regime. It’s a pity,” Munyagwa suggested recently.
