The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon Mathias Mpuuga has refused to consider another Member of Parliament to replace Mityana Municipality MP Zaake.
Hon Zaake lost his position after 155 MPs in Parliament signed a petition to oust him for abusing the person of the Deputy Speaker on twitter. The Mp’s led by Bardege-Layibi Division MP, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi moved a motion for Zaake’s removal for posts he uttered on February 9, calling Hon Among a dishonest person who lacked “intelligence prowess.”
Consequently, he was directed by the Deputy Speaker to report to the house within a period of one week and apologize, She also asked the opposition to front another person to replace Zaake.
However, while addressing the media on Friday afternoon, Mpuuga said the grounds for his removal were illegal based on the numbers and that the committee that found him guilty had cushioned other matters in their report.
According to the Rules of Procedure for 50 percent plus one member of the voting MPs need to support the motion. The House needed 265 MPs to vote in favour of the motion seeking to remove Zaake from the Parliamentary Commission. However, 155 MPs voted in favour, which is contrary to a requirement under the Rules of Procedure for 50 percent plus one member of the voting MPs to support the motion.
“The litany of illegalities committed yesterday, you probably have browsed through the key rules, including the basic rule on numbers, while the committee wrote to Parliament,it was a report that we considered not good enough,” he said
