Police in Kampala has confirmed that the suspect in the murder of a dead body wrapped in a sack was not working alone.
The suspect Gideon Nabasa,31, a security guard attached to Afrisafe Guard Company was netted by police cops on patrol on Sunday at 4:30 am in Kazo Lugoba Zone Kazo Ward, Nabweru Division in Wakiso District ,carrying the lifeless body on a motorcycle.
He was ordered to stop and upon conducting a search, police discovered a dead man in the sack, prompting the immediate arrest of Nabasa at Kawempe Police Post.
Fred Enanga the Uganda Police spokesperson says the deceased has been identified as one Ivan Kagezi a resident in Hoima district who had gone missing for days. Enanga adds that the deceased boarded a hired motorcycle from Buseruka in Hoima a week ago and has since been out of contact with family and friends .
“Kagezi hired this motorcycle on self-drive from Buseruka on March,7, 2022 and was leaving the village where he was living in Kijanji to Buseruka which are six kilometres apart. He paid shs10,000 to the owner of the motorcycle and since then, he disappeared until his body was recovered,”Enanga said.
According to Enanga further investigations reveal that the deceased was killed at a residence of Nabasa shared with a colleague, Ivan Twinamasiko who he works with at Katogo, Bwaise guarding a bank.
He adds that police conducted a search at the security guards ‘home in Bwaise, Katoogo zone where blood stained clothes and other property belonging to the deceased was found.
“The two had been deployed to guard a microfinance called Trinity Investments Bank found in Bwaise near Katoogo zone. When a search was conducted at the home of the two, blood was found allover the room they were renting. The whole mattress was also covered with blood and clothes belonging to the deceased were also recovered,”Enanga said.
Enanga also says that investigations indicated that the deceased had spent two days at the home of the two security guards before he was killed under unclear circumstances.
“The motive of the murder is not yet clear but we shall be able to establish. We don’t want to confirm now whether there was a lot that they failed to share or there was a deal that went wrong but there are leads coming in,”Enanga said.
