Closed door meeting
It is not entirely an open affair as the Chief Justice of Uganda Alfonse Owiny- Dollo meets Buganda leadership to apologize at Bulange, Mengo, on March 31 st 2022.
CJ Owiny-Dollo arrived at Bulange, the Headquaters of Buganda Kingdom on Thursday at 11:00 am to officially apologise for offensive remarks directed at the person of the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.

The chief Justice Owiny-Dollo is accompanied by former UPC president Olara Otunnu and two others, the team was seen arriving in a black sleek Prado and welcomed by the Buganda Premier, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.

Officials from Buganda ushered in the CJ and his team before declaring that matters to be discussed are private hence don’t immediately require the presence of the media. Katikkiro Mayiga said journalists locked outside will be ushered in once CJ Owiny- Dollo makes his speech in the presence of religious leaders and the Buganda Kingdom brass.

Several religious leaders under the inter religious council were present for the ongoing closed door meeting, including the Archbishop Church of Buganda Dr Kazimba Mugalu.
Earlier this week, the Chief Justice A Owiny-Dollo bowed to pressure and penned a public apology over statements uttered against the person of the Kabaka of Buganda.

Last week while addressing mourners at late Oulanyah’s residence in Muyenga, CJ Owiny Dollo accused the fraternity of Baganda in the diaspora of being hypocritical by demonstrating against the government funding Speaker’s travel for treatment.
Closed door meeting
According to an article in the Daily Monitor dated March 29, 2022, the Chief Justice has retracted untruthful statements made about the state funding the Kabaka, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ii.
“I hereby unequivocally, unreservedly and of my free volition, wholly retract that reference and also hereby tender my apology to His Majesty the Kabaka. I will hereafter communicate to the Katikkiro of Buganda in writing, registering my apology, ” Owiny-Dollo said.
He also praised the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga for responding with maturity towards his emotional outburst.
His apology followed a statement released by Katikkiro Mayiga, clarifying that the utterances made by the Chief Justice were untrue. The Katikkiro explained that the Kabaka has never used a presidential jet and more importantly, not for that trip to Germany .
“Death causes shock , grief and anguish and it often makes emotions run high. However, just for the record, when the Kabaka flew to Germany in August, 2021, he didn’t fly by the presidential jet but by KLM,” Mayiga said.
The Kabaka traveled to Germany in August 2021 to seek advanced medical care from medical experts for his allergy complications. He also used the same trip to inspect the activities of his Kabaka Foundation in Germany where he met various subjects in the diaspora.
This apology comes just days after the Kabaka again traveled to Germany for officiall business under the Kabaka Foundation and also to meet with his doctors.
