The Inspector General of Government (IGG)’s office is closely following events as the government prepares a grand burial for fallen Speaker of the 11th Parliament Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah.
A budget of 1.8 billion shillings down from 2.5 billion shillings has been released from the consolidated fund to cater for expenses leading up to the burial day of the deceased.
According to the final budget released and prepared by the National Organizing Committee chair, Presidency Minister, Milly Babalanda, it goes as follows;
Inspectorate of Government Beti Kamya posted the above budget on her twitter handle calling it a cash bonanza in funeral expenses that deserves to be investigated.
“The spirit of the departed speaker must be horrified by the obscene cash bonanza in the funeral expenses. He would not allow it if he had a choice. The IGG will honour him by taking interest in allegations of impropriety in his funeral expenses,” the IGG, Beti Kamya said in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon.
The Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda defended the budget asking the public not to scrutinize it but instead focus on the activities and the status of the Person of the Speaker.
In a tweet on Tuesday morning she wrote; “Regarding the budget for burying Rt. Hon. Oulanyah, what matters is not the figures but the activities involved and status of the deceased. Let us avoid traumatizing the family in this trying time,” She stated.
The lifeless body of the late Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah will touch ground at the Entebbe International Airport on Friday this week via the Ethiopian airlines.
