Opposition heavyweight Kiiza Besigye put up a dramatic show at downtown Kampala after he played security and outmaneuver his way from Kasangati, Wakiso in a wire meshed Land cruiser.

The former Forum for Democratic Party President accessed the area in the morning at about 08:00 am in the absence of police cops and immediately started addressing the mounting crowds of his supporters who cheered him on. Business came to a temporary halt as owners were forced to close shop in fear of tear gas eruptions and commotion in the face of his arrival.

Besigye was protesting the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities in the country,

His car has been readjusted with an additional cage at the top, making it more impossible for security operatives to snatch him. The car had three implanted loud speakers and several microphones that the opposition celebrity used to address hundreds that had gathered around it.

In his noise filled speech at Arua Park, Besigye managed to pass his message asking Ugandans to “wake up” and respond to the increasing prices before it’s too late. After a few minutes of his speech, police and other security forces arrived at the scene with a heavy truck that was attached to Besigye’s car and towed away.

Our reporter Minah Nalule says Police, military and civilian clothed operatives first tried to use a breakdown car to remove Besigye’s car in vain, they later cut the wires to his microphone before devising a heavier truck to tow it away upto CPS Kampala.

The car tyres reportedly burst abruptly  around KPC church enroute to the Central Police station.

On Monday, Police arrested the former opposition political party headand detained him in a police van to stop him from entering the city center to protest skyrocketing commodity prices.

He was held in the mobile police cells until later in the evening when they chose to release him, However, Besigye declined to disembark from the police van prompting the officers to drag him out.

“Am not leaving,” Dr. Besigye could be heard telling a police officer identified as Albert Muhumuza who was pushing him from the van. He was later pushed to his residence.
